Ever thought about creating a custom resin skull filled with Legos? This project is a fun, creative challenge that brings together unique materials, vibrant color, and a polished final look. Using Promise Deep Pour and Table Top Epoxy, you can make a statement spooky piece that's a bound to catch attention. Ready to dive in? Here's a step-by-step guide!
The Materials:
- Promise Deep Pour Epoxy
- Promise Table Top Epoxy
- Resin Skull Mold
- Eye Candy Pigment Mica Powder
- Odies Oil
- Legos
- Mixing Supplies
Step 1: Fill Your Mold
To kick things off, grab your silicone skull mold and fill it with Legos of your choice. The beauty of this project lies in the customization - you can use a mix of colors or stick to a specific theme. Think about the colors that will stand out best against a clear epoxy backdrop. Make sure your Legos fit comfortably in the mold, but feel free to experiment with different shapes and sizes to give the skull some unique flair.
Step 2: Measure, Mix, and Pour
Next up, it's time to get your epoxy ready. Carefully measure out your Promise Deep Pour Epoxy. It's a 2:1 formula and your volume of Part A and Part B will vary depending on the size of your mold. If you don't know how much resin you'll need we recommend filling your mold with rice and then pouring it into a measuring cup!

Accurate measurements are the key to achieving a flawless cure. Once measured, mix the epoxy thoroughly and pour it into the mold over your Lego arrangement, filling it to the top with the clear epoxy to create a transparent effect around the Legos.
Step 3: Allow Your Epoxy to Cure
Patience is essential! Let the epoxy cure undisturbed for about 2-3 days depending on the temperature of your environment. This extended curing time is necessary for the Deep Pour to solidify fully, leaving you with a clear, bubble-free base that encases the Legos beautifully.
Step 4: Measure & Mix (Again!)
After your initial pour has cured, it's time to add a bit of color to your project. Measure and mix Promise Table Top Epoxy in a small amount. This layer will be a thin 1/2" or less, and will form the base color for your skull, creating depth and a touch of artistry to contrast with the clear epoxy surrounding the Legos.

Step 5: Add Mica Powder to the Epoxy Mixture
Add a mica powder of your choice to the mixed epoxy. Mica powder comes in a variety of stunning colors, so choose one that complements your Lego colors or adds an extra pop to the design. Stir the mica powder thoroughly until it's fully incorporated, creating a rich, even color.
Step 6: Pour a Thin Colored Layer Into the Mold
Pour this colored epoxy as a thin layer into the mold, covering the cured, clear layer. This creates a visually striking colored base that will contrast beautifully with the clear, Lego-filled top. The thin layer also prevents oversaturation of color, ensuring the Legos remain visible from the top and sides.
Let it cure for 24 hours. Since Table Top Epoxy is designed as a surface coating epoxy the shorter cure time is enough to stabilize the base and get it ready for the next step.
Step 7: Demold the Resin Skull
Once everything has fully cured, carefully demold the resin skull from your silicone mold. The clear epoxy, colored base, and encased Legos should come together to form a unique and stunning piece. Take your time with the demolding process to avoid any rips or tears in your mold.
Step 8: Measure & Mix Again (This Is the Last Time)
To finish off your skull with a polished look, measure out another small amount of Promise Table Top Epoxy. This time, keep the epoxy clear - no colorants or additives needed for this final coat.
Step 9: Pour a Vertical Flood Coat
Prop up your resin skull carefully over a tiny cup so that you can pour the flood coat evenly across the top. Start at the top and pour a thin, vertical layer over the entire skull. Gravity will do most of the work to coat your resin skull. This clear coat will add depth and give your piece a glossy, glass-like finish, enhancing both the clarity of the clear epoxy and the vibrancy of the colored base.
As the flood coat settles, you may notice some micro bubbles forming. To tackle these, gently use a heat gun or torch to "ride the wave" by gently moving your heat over the surface. Move the heat tool in a slow, sweeping motion to release trapped air and achieve a smooth, bubble-free finish.
Let your flood coat cure for a full 24 hours.
Step 10: Filing & Sanding
After curing, inspect the bottom of your skull for any drips or rough edges from the flood coat. Use a file or fine sandpaper to remove these drips, giving the bottom a clean, finished look that matches the rest of your piece.
If you use a sander that does not have a dust free collection system, be sure to wear a respirator designed for vapors to protect yourself. Proper PPE is important!
Step 11: Apply Your Finish Oil
To take your skull to the next level, apply a small amount of Odies Oil. This finishing oil is perfect for adding a bit of extra shine, highlighting the colors, and enhancing the transparency of the clear epoxy. Rub it in gently and buff to a soft, polished finish.
