Hey there, DIYers, artists, and all-around creative champs! 🌟 Ready to tackle the not-so-talked-about but oh-so-important part of your epoxy resin project? That's right, we're diving into the world of sanding epoxy resin and the ins and outs of how to sand epoxy resin properly. Buckle up, because we're about to make those bumps smoother than a jazz saxophone solo! 🎷✨

Before You Sand Away: Safety First, Fun Second!

Let's get real for a second – safety is key when you're about to create some resin magic. Always wear a respirator; those resin particles aren't good for your lungs. When you sand resin, you're reducing it into breathable particles and you shouldn't inhale them. It's also a good practice to always wear safety glasses and work in a well-ventilated area. Epoxy resin is super fun, but we often forget that it's also a chemical and needs to be treated as such.

Picking Your Tools: Like Choosing Your Wand in a Magic Shop

Got a smaller, detailed piece? Go old school and sand it by hand. But if you're working on something that screams "I'm huge and I need attention," bring out the power sander! Remember, power sanding is like a hungry caterpillar, it eats a bit more material. 🐛 This is why grit is so important!

What's the Grit Got to Do With It?

Choosing your sandpaper grit is like picking the right shoes for a night out. If your surface is just a little rough around the edges, start with a higher grit. It's like wearing sneakers to a party – comfortable and gets the job done without overdoing it.

But if your surface has a large amount of encapsulated surface bubbles or debris, start with a low grit (such as 40 or 60) and work your way up. By working your way up to a higher grit, you're removing the scratches produced by the previous grit's sanding to ultimately obtain a smoother glass-like finish.

Pro Tip - If you want a matte finish just stick with the low level grit!

The Final Act: Polishing Like a Pro

Once you've sanded your way to success, it's time for that Oscar-worthy finishing touch. Bring in the resin polishing compound – it's like the red carpet for your project. To start out, ensure the surface of your project is clean and debris free. Then apply your polish in four to six dots across the surface of your project AND to your buffing pad. Next you'll want to apply the polish with steady circular motions in small sections. Depending on the tools you have available, you can use a buffing power tool, or just a microfiber towel if you're not into power tools. Once complete use a microfiber towel to remove the polish from your project's surface and your done! 💎

Hello, I recently made a floor for my semi truck using your epoxy, can you give me some advice on how to remove smaller stuff marks / scratches? What product do you recommend for sanding / polishing it out?
