More Than A Triangle: Resin Pyramids
Resin pyramids are in some ways what's written on the tin; they are resin cast in the 3D shape of a pyramid. However, crafters have elevated this concept far beyond a simple clear resin shape, incorporating objects, glitters, and a variety of colors to make something that stands out as unique. Aside from the shape, resin pyramids might be identified by the different layers that artists build inside of them. Although the layers are always at least composed of resin, what the artists chooses to mix in the switch it up can vary, making the project highly customizable!
When making resin pyramids, there are a few things we'd like you to keep in mind to ensure your best result. Having the right tools at your side and knowing a few good practices is the perfect way to start any project!

The Best Resin for the Job
If you are thinking of making a resin pyramid of your own, we recommend using our ProPour Casting Resin. ProMarine Supplies' ProPour Casting Resin's is a 2-to-1 by volume formula. Among many things, ProPour allows you to do pours of up to 1.5 inches without concerns about overheating. With the formula's thinner viscosity, you will also see thicker pours, longer work times, and slower cures. If you plan on encasing a delicate object, we also recommended applying a layer of either our ProArt or TableTop epoxy resin.
Tips About Your Mold
Typically, pouring your own epoxy resin pyramid starts with a mold. You can get these molds in a variety of sizes, but it's important that it's made of silicone. Silicone molds are great for resin products because resin doesn't stick to silicone. That way it is easier to demold your project.
Bubbles, Layering, and Avoiding Dust
It's best to take the time to remove bubbles for each layer of resin. Utilizing a heat gun or a blow torch can help you eliminate bubbles efficiently before you allow your resin to cure. While pouring your layers for the pyramid, you should allow the previous sections of resin to cure before applying the next. This will help the different resin layers avoid mixing together and create those distinctive lines you see in resin pyramids. When setting aside your project for each cure, it might be a good idea to cover it so that no dust or debris contaminates the epoxy.
Coloring
Depending on what type of colorant you want to use; and regardless of how you dye it, it's important to keep in mind that a little color goes a long way. Any liquid based dyes should be used sparingly as well, as the liquid base can possibly upset the particular resin to hardener formula. Additives should be no more than 5% of your total mixture for the best results.

Resin Pyramid Ideas
A lot of creators use resin pyramids as the opportunity to encase objects in resin, as well. Objects ranging from shells and stones to flowers are encapsulated for display in some of the many layers. One thing you should be sure of is that if you are planning on encasing organic things like leaves or flowers to make sure they're dry. Not drying flowers before putting them in resin runs the risk of causing more bubbles to appear due to the inherent moisture in plant life. You can either hang plants up to dry on their own over the course of several days or use flower-drying silica gel to get them where they need to be.
We have also seen artists make resin pyramids to use as ring holders, paperweights, and household decor. Like with most resin projects, the only limit is your skill and imagination. Many have based their creations on a particular aesthetic or theme, tried to recreate environment within the pyramid itself, or used them as a means to encase something memorable, like a celebratory bouquet.
