Epoxy Resin – the “Glue” that Brings Us Together…

Sharing Crafts & Creations Helps “Bond” Resin Users…

Over the past three years or so, we’ve posted dozens of columns featuring epoxy resin projects and pastimes; and it’s nice to peruse the web and see what others are saying about the polymer as well. Since of course, we avidly endorse all things epoxy resin – we like to see how others share their enthusiasm, as well as possible hear about some new epoxy resin ideas and inspirations

Do-it-yourself (DIY) carpenter and crafter stories abound on the web – sharing stories and ideas both with creative and practical bents. For instance, Adam of Lazy Guy DIY, writes in his piece titled “Fun with Epoxy,” about his experiences and experimentation with epoxy resin:

“If you didn’t already know, epoxy is magical. Not unicorn magical, but pretty darn close. It’s a polymer (meaning it bonds, like a glue, not a BFF) and it can coat and adhere to pretty much any surface. Wood, metal, stone… you name it. Did I mention it’s waterproof? They use this stuff on boats (with their flippy floppies on)! So why is a DIY/Hobbyist using it? Simple… to make projects look AWESOME. Oh, and it’s functional too.”

And ‘How to’ site www.Hometalk.com highlights some innovative and ingenious ways to apply epoxy resin to a number of decorative and practical household items in ‘13 Clearly Brilliant Projects that use Epoxy Resin.’ Featured projects include epoxy resin table ideas, inspired door knob designs, as well as artisanal wood finishing and artistic craft inspirations. “Epoxy resin is a great product that allows your imagination to run wild any time you get creative.”

Elsie Larson and Emma Chapman, the ladies and sisters of lifestyle firm ‘A Beautiful Mess,’ share an epoxy resin project in a column by Josh Rhodes, ‘DIY Colorful Epoxy-topped Desk.’ Josh explains,

“A few months ago, we all moved from our community table to upstairs, which created a need for more office furniture. Elsie asked me to build her a desk. I said I would, but I didn't tell her what kind. I wanted it to be a surprise. I knew I wanted it to be bright and colorful, and I wanted to use colored resin. This post isn't really how I built the desk, but how I created the resin part. You can do this to an existing desk you want to remodel/update. For about 80 bucks, you can dramatically change the look of a table or desk! And it's so fun to do!” (finished desk shown below):

Sharing craft creations and how-to ideas with others helps not only inspire those being shown; but also assists in honing the skills and growing the knowledge and experience of the one doing the mentoring. Teaching and learning go hand-in-hand – another truly bonding experience!
